We will be closed from the 15th to the 22nd of September due to taking part in the 'Chasing Markham Rally' and orders placed during this time will not be processed until we re-open on Monday 25th September.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause people, but its a great experience for us, along with the fact its raising money for a great charity.
This year we have been lucky enough to be picked to enter a team in the 'Chasing Markham Rally' run by the Bilstein Group.
From the 15th to the 22nd September we will be driving through 10 European countries (UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgium & Netherlands.) covering approximately 2500 miles in a car which is at the moment unknown to us.
A total of 30 teams are taking part in the event, and all the cars being used have been donated to the charity, and they will be drawn out of a hat within the next few weeks.
We will have some time to work on the vehicle before the rally to make sure it can go the distance on some of the most demanding roads in Europe, and at the end of the rally the cars will be auctioned off to raise even more money for the charity.
Obviously becuase of who we are, and what we do, we really do hope we get a vehicle thats VW,Audi,Seat or Skoda... but no matter what we get, we will try and get plenty of German bits fitted before we go.
The rally does have some pretty big challenges for any car, such as getting from Kent to Switzerland on the first day, before taking on some epic mountain roads in places such as the Fluela Pass, Stelvio Pass and the Grossglockner, and also lasting for two laps of the Nurburgring!
The rally is to raise money for BEN (Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund) which is a charity that supports people that are in some way connected to the automotive industry, past and present.
To find out more about BEN and what they do please visit their website... ben.org.uk
The organisers have challenged us to raise £1000 for the charity, and this is where you come in.
As of today (29/07/17) we have just under 7 weeks to raise the money, we are planning on doing a few fundraising events and will release details as soon as they are finalised.
We are also allowed to 'decorate or customise' the vehicle, so if anyone would like to sponsor the vehicle in any way please let us know.
There is also rally merchandise that we can sell, and will get hold of some and get it listed on here as soon as we can.
The organisers have set us up with a Just Giving page, justgiving.com/fundraising/team-avs any donations are greatly appreciated, and will help us on our way to our target.
Maybe we have helped you out in the past, saved you some money, or just given you amazing service... a small donation to the chosen charity would be a great way to say thank you.
You can also donate by text message, by simply sending the code 'CHMA79' and the ammount to 70070.
The car we were supposed to be getting was a Peugeot 407, but unfortunately that developed some mechanical problems before it was delivered to us, so we made a last minute subsitution for a 2001 Polo GTi.
Its the night before the start, and in the last week we have carried out a mini mechanical overhaul using parts we normally supply to hopefully make sure the car will go the distance. We have fitted a Dayco cambelt kit, Hella water pump, TRW discs and pads all round, with a mix of TRW and Brake Engineering calipers, done a service with a mix of Genuine and Bosch filters, fitted Beru spark plugs, and have filled it with Longlife III.
Did the drive down to Kent for the start last night, only one minor niggle was the temperature gauge was being a bit tempremental. It may have just been a bit of water in the plug as I did pressure wash the engine bay yesterday, will see how it gets on later today.
We have set up an Instagram account @avsnorfolk which we will be using for the duration of the Rally, as there are some photo challenges and activities along the way. You can find us using #avscarparts, or for posts from other teams in the Rally #chasingmarkham
